Ex-druggie/hippie’s unusual custom lp of moody ballads — a quasi-psych pastiche of organ, acoustic guitar, piano, electric piano, flute, sound effects and a rather loud piercing harmonica (at least I think that’s what it is), all fronted by smooth vocals with a mild Greek accent. Side one is presented in one continuous flow, simple melodies like ‘Lost’, ‘Seekers Of The Truth’, ‘The Death Of Christ’, ‘God And Man” and ‘The Will Of God’ blurring into each other via the ambience of a passing train, a thunderstorm, jungle birds and crashing waves, Side two is all spoken word and consists of Tom’s testimony, his wife Vicky’s testimony and a short message from Tom. Marijuana, LSD, hashish, Hare Krishna, the rock-and—roll scene, a mental institution, shock treatments — this dude went through it all. The album apparently has a small reputation, collectors split over whether it’s brilliant or awful. I’m not totally sure I like it, but it certainly is unique and unusual, one of those acquired-taste outsider-music deals. The organ at least comes through with a fairly psychy quality. Intriguing cover photo, a sharp profile of Tom in a reddish suit holding out his opened Bible in front of the New York City skyline. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
