Shatter The Darkness (Myrrh MSB-6628) 1979
Shatter The Darkness is a major step forward. Bigger production overall, with McCall’s highly emotive vocals perfectly suited to slow intense rockers like the title cut and the synth-heavy ‘Change My Heart’, as well as somber impelling ballads like ‘The World’ and ‘Beautiful Woman’. ‘Rock Band’ ups the tempo and brings in the guitars for one of their heaviest statements to date. Comparisons elude me – Fireworks has succeeded in crafting their own unique brand of hard-edged pop-rock, with McCall’s rhythmic pounding piano chords becoming the trademark of the group’s sound. Slick colorful sleeve design made to resemble a package of fireworks. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
