Spirit Music (Loving Grace no #) 1982

Monbleau, Wayne - Spirit Music

Yet another side of Wayne, this time set in the context of a live folk worship setting. Spirit Music is a two-disc set recorded in concert throughout 1981, featuring Wayne on six and twelve-string guitars and lead vocals, assisted by six others on background vocal harmony (four female, two male). Very sincere and worshipful. The harmonies are especially moving and creative, sometimes taking off in varied spontaneous choruses of praise at a song’s completion. The songs tend to go on for awhile (‘The Blessing Song’, ‘Pour Your Spirit Upon Us’ and ‘Let Heaven Fill Your Thoughts’ are all in the nine-minute range), but the aim here I believe is to get involved in the worship rather than just casual listening. Ranges from strummed acoustic rock to hand-clappers with bluesy picking to slow pensive expressions, all with the usual skilful guitar work. All fourteen selections were written by Wayne. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
