New Beginning (Tri-Art TAS 7527) 1975?
Easygoing light rock and ballads custom from a pair of smooth harmonizing North Dakota brothers. David and Virgil Hollen primarily give us mellow folky pop-edged tunes, modestly arranged with acoustic and electric guitars, piano, electric piano, flute, bass, drums, plus occasional background strings or brass. A couple tracks take up a slightly heavier rock stance: ‘If You Really Know’ includes some good electric guitar leads, while their cover of Country Faith’s ‘Two Roads’ works in effective fuzz guitar soloing. Some of the softer tracks worth noting are ‘Brother’, ‘Life Worth Living’, ‘Looking For The Sonshine’ and ‘Reflections’, the latter a pleasant ‘Ventura Highway’ -like acoustic instrumental. See also the entry for David’s solo lp. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
