Like the Destiny label’s Gospel Ship compilations, this is a various artists lp of studio cuts unavailable elsewhere. Several of the songs follow a pastoral folk-rock style, the stand-out for me being Dave White’s ‘Take It To The Highlands’ and ‘Take His Hand’, the latter with layers of synthesizer and an intriguing world-music percussion solo and fade-out. Some might recognize the folk duo Gospel Seed who contribute two excellent songs pre-dating their Myrrh lp (‘By Our Love’ and the Seals & Crofts-ish ‘Lines’). Mark Boddeker’s ‘We Are His’ and ‘Cool Breeze’ have pleasant rural edges with piano backing, while Cy Holmes sole cut ‘Glory, Hallelujah!’ cruises along to a relaxed groove complete with fiddle solo. Cris Geisman’s ‘Born Again’ should please those who admire Carole King’s pop-rock stylings. Also two fine songs featuring the smooth female harmonies of Morning Glory (‘Til We See Christ’ and ‘He’s All You Need’). Produced by Dennis Ryder who’s also one of the accompanying guitarists and keyboardists. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
