Gabriel’s Mother’s Highway (Move MS 3007) 1972 Australia *
Gabriel ’s Mother’s Highway is a folk album at heart, with production that gives the music a dreamy captivating singer/songwriter edge worthy of a mainstream label. Moody arrangements make use of piano, acoustic and electric guitars, bass and drums for a style not unlike Frank Dumin or Gene Cotton. There’s a special emphasis on the songs of Sydney Carter, including ‘Bitter Was The Night’, ‘Coming Or Going Away’, ‘The Candlelight’, ‘Judas And Mary’ and the haunting piano ballad ‘Green Like The Leaves’. Also covers of Arlo Guthrie (the title track) and Elton John (‘Sixty Years On’), plus three original songs, all brought to life through the warmth, passion and sensitivity of Henri’s vocals. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet.Thank you Brian for the song list and rear cover photo.
