Finally Headed Home (Poly PSI 978) 1978?

McClure, John - Finally Headed Home

Well-produced acoustic singer/songwriter sounds on this multi-instrumentalist’s custom release. John is behind the piano, acoustic guitar, Poly-moog, bass, organ and lead vocals, while others provide percussion, drums, flute and background vocals. John’s voice bears a strong resemblance to Jim Strathdee, most noticeably on piano-backed songs like ‘Come Holy Spirit’ and ‘Have You Not Heard’. On the songs accompanied by guitar (the other half of the album), the music sometimes bears similarity to Michael Kelly Blanchard. Stirring finger-picked acoustic folk moods can be found within ‘I Corinthians 13’, ‘Psalm 23’ and the solemn ‘Ballad Of Bobbie’. Also some suave “cool guitar” moves on ‘Christmas Song’ and ‘New Song’, the latter with bossa nova rhythms ala Antonio Carlos Jobim. Closes with a traditional rendering of ‘The Old Rugged Cross’. Recorded in Birmingham, Alabama. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
