Elisha (Lamb CC-77126) 1977? Canada *
Six guys and two girls inspired by the old country-styled school of Jesus music standards. Daniel Amos would seem to be particularly dear in their hearts since they do covers of ‘Love In A Yielded Heart’, ‘Don’t Light Your Own Fire’ and ‘Abidin’. They also do Love Song (‘Front Seat, Back Seat’), Barry McGuire (‘How Many Times’) and a pair from Randy Matthews (‘Didn’t He’ and ‘Mighty Fine’, the latter transitioning into a respectable little blues-rock jam). The male/female harmonies are sometimes just a tad on the smooth side, especially on the somewhat out-of-place contemporary gospel/praise ballads ‘He Looked Beyond’ and ‘Psalm 5’. Overall an agreeable lighthearted country-folk-rock kind of sound with some beneficial synthesizer accompaniment and electric guitar leads. Only one original song, ‘For My Friends’. Recorded in Edmonton, Alberta, so I’m assuming they’re from Canada. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
