David Players, The - Songs From David

If you were a tourist walking around the beach at Panama City, Florida in the summer of 1975 you might have spotted five college guys known as The David Players performing “David And Goliath… a contemporary musical comedy”. This homemade recording features nine original songs all centered around the life of David. I recognize one of the names (Ron Mashbum) from some of the Two By Two albums. There’s also a Steve Camp (though I can’t tell if it’s the Steve Camp — probably not). From acoustic folk-rock with percussion, to very pretty 12-string ballads, to whimsical horsin’-around on ‘Praise Song’ and ‘They Are Rioting In Palestine’, The David Players bring a smile with their simple lighthearted warmth and appeal. Contains brief humorous narrative bits between the songs. Comes in one of those plain generic sea-side sunset covers. “Pull up a sand dune… for we could sing about God’s love all night long”. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
