This One’s For You (Song 0f Songs no #) 1978?
Another fine independent release of hook-laden pop-rock. It never hurts to put a little pop sitar in your grooves 4 ‘Missing In Action’, ‘Open Up Your Heart’ and the title track all get the treatment, the latter a melodic ballad touched with Philly soul sentiments ala Stylistics/Delfonics. You can’t help but love ‘Going Up To Meet My Maker’ where America styled pop is married up with Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys harmonies. ‘Golgotha’ is a short but intriguing instrumental featuring mandolin, cello and what sounds like a wordless operatic female voice. The closing ‘He’s Coming Back’ turns up the juice with a heavy bass line, jazzy piano, soulful female bgvs and potent electric guitar leads, brewing up a sleek funky jazz-rock groove not unlike Steely Dan’s ‘Josie’. From Laurel, Mississippi. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo.
