Everybody Needs A Little Help (Myrrh MSB-6619) 1978

Okay, here’s where things start to get a little interesting. Depending on whether you go by the music or the cover photos, Everybody Needs A Little Help could either be described as David’s Bee Gees phase or David’s ‘70s polyester jogging suit phase. Several songs feature David warbling around in Barry Gibb falsetto realms, including the lively disco number ‘Love Is The Reason (We’re Here Tonight)’, the MOR ballad ‘God Holds The Future’ and playful pop melodies like ‘Can’t Believe It’s True’ and ‘Never Gonna Serve Anyone Else’. Of course it’s all sort of a ccm poor-man’s B-grade Gibb, not nearly as infectious as the Night Fever boys, but it’s probably the best we could ask for, and I’m glad the guy stood up to the challenge. I wonder how much that jogging suit would fetch on eBay. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).]
