Maranatha! 3 (Maranatha HS-777/5) 1973

This is the one with the happy cartoon cover – happy mountains, happy trees clapping their branches, and a long-haired bell-bottomed, barefoot grinnin’ Bible-totin’ happy hippie in the middle shouting “Rejoice in the Lord”. All non-lp tracks for this offering, with Mustard Seed Faith debuting at the top of their form with two songs, ‘Happy In Jesus’ and ‘Rest’. Hosanna scores a winner with ‘Why Art Thou Disquieted?’, a brilliant psychy acoustic piece with dreamy flute work and echoing wah-wah guitar. Also appearing for the first time are Karen Lafferty (‘Plan Of Love’) and Becky Ugartechea (‘God Don’t Care Who You Are’), both of whom later did full length works for the label. One track each from Country Faith members Tom Stipe (‘Big City Blues’) and Chuck Butler (‘Nursery Rhyme’). Also a reappearance of Blessed Hope with the honky-tonk-edged rocker ‘I’ll Never Be Lonely’. Ernie Rettino’s piano ballad ‘l’ll Never Leave You’ and Bob & Steve’s acoustic ‘Psalm 42’ round out the set. Artwork superb throughout, including the classic evangelistic comic tract on the liner sleeve.    (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
