Agape - Our Hearts Knit Together

Five guys and five girls in dweeby outfits.  I was about to leave this one in the bins when I noticed it was on the Way International label where all their groups, even the rockers were now wearing dweeby outfits. Although released on the Way’s US label, this particular group happens to be be of British origin.  Songs are mostly in a melodic folk or folk/pop vein with that distinctive British quality, titles like ‘Gather Round Brothers And Sisters’, ‘God Delivered Jesus Christ’, ‘Blessed Is The Nation’ and ‘Heart Of England’ strumming along with acoustic guitar, piano, flute and spirited male/female harmonies.  The female solo vocals on the ballad ‘Father And Child’ remind me a little  of Judy MacKenzie, while ‘Fireside Song’ with its graceful violin accomplishment leaves a mild Parchment-like impression.  Overall not up there with the best UK folk  outfits as the music occasionally slip towards MOR, but still a very worthwhile effort.     (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
