Wir Konnen Nicht Schweignen (Pietbiet 1001) 1970? Germany *
The first entry on the Janssen’s Pietbiet label is one of his best. The album has numerous mod sections where the organ, electric guitar and drums get a lively swinging rock groove going. Plenty of cool guitar leads throughout, often with twangy ’60s garage effects (check out the lengthy solo on “Kommuniondank’). The organ also effectively adds to the groovy ’60s psych edge. Shifts into blues for ‘Feuer’ (‘I heard some tremolo in there). Alternates male and female solo vocalist, with small ensemble joining in on the choruses. Side one appears to be a mass, with titles such as ‘Kyrie’, ‘Glorialied’, ‘Credolied’, etc. Odd b&w cover photo, a close-up of a padlock on a man’s lips. Title means We Cannot Be Silent. Label lists the artist as Peter Janssen Ensemble. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
