New Wine Vintage ’72 (GU-1) 1972
After the mildly disappointing Agape Factory, God Unlimited returned in top form for album number five. New Wine Vintage ’72 (the first lp on their own custom label) has more of an emphasis on solo performances, mainly acoustic ballads, fragile and full of magic. Includes a couple gripping somber minor-key tracks (‘Maybe’ and ‘A Love Song’) written and performed by lead guitarist Steve Dannenbaum. ‘Comin’ Home’, ‘For Jamin’, ‘The Song I Sing’ and ‘Cindy’s Song’ are all delicate ballads, while ‘The Dove’, ‘Summer’s Sunset’, ‘For Sunshine’ and ‘New Wine’ softly flow along to gentle acoustic melodies. ‘Look To The Sun’ and the opening ‘Praise God’ provide some of their usual excellent brisk high-energy folk. Eight members at this point in time (four guys, four girls), still looking sufficiently hippie-ish on the back cover photos. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
This one was on the Heavenly Grooves Site.
