Sapphire (Profile  GMOR 153)  1978  UK *

One of the rarest and most sought after Profile releases is this simple folk album of mostly cover songs.  A very pleasant record though, with all the charm of other male/female Profile artist like Gil, Colin & Desmond, Aslan, The Bluebirds, New Wine, Spiral and Reality Folk. If they sound especially like the latter group, that’s because it’s the same folks, now renames Sapphire for their third lp.  Some obscure song choices (Gallagher & Lyle’s ‘Every Little Teardrop’, Firefall’s ‘You Are The Woman’, Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘Bitter Green’,  The Seekers’ ‘Morning Town Ride’, an adorable cover of ‘Answer Me’), as well as more familiar  titles like ‘You’ve Got A Friend’, ‘Teach The Children’ and ‘Shower The People’.  In the Jesus music category are two medleys that include selections by Love Song (‘Brand New Song’ , ‘Changes’, ‘Think About What Jesus Said’) and Larry Norman’s (‘If God Is My Father’).  Also an excellent Seekers-like original track entitled ‘The Only One For Me’. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).

Sorry this album has alluded me, thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the song list.
