Windvoice (Branch  SRS 1101)  1980

Not a bad independent rock production from the guitar duo of Doug and Don Holmes. Sometimes soft, sometimes heavy, sometimes in between, with acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, plus appearances of piano, electric piano, synthesizer, flute, sax and female backing vocals. Those nifty Keaggy-inspired electric guitar leads certainly add to the interest level on cuts like ‘In Him’, expanding into heavier rocking riffs on ‘Captain Of Salvation’, ‘Religious Deception’ and the power ballad ‘We Turn Our Love’. Mellow ballads comprise most of side two, often backed with string synthesizer, sometimes with light jazz edge (‘New Song’, ‘Silent Revelation’) or a touch of classical guitar (‘What Wondrous Love’). Also includes covers of the Doobies’ ‘Takin’ It To The Streets’ and JC Power Outlet’s ‘Don’t Let Jesus Pass You By’ before appropriately closing with Petra’s ‘Parting Thought’. From Birmingham, Alabama.    (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
