The Restorer (Dove DOVE 61)  1978  UK *

Very pleasant follow-up with a relaxed melodic pop-edged acoustic sound reminiscent of Al Stewart. Simple arrangements usually led by Phil’s acoustic guitar, plus soft touches of synthesizer, piano and electric guitar, no strings or horns. Lighthearted playful bluesy moods on ‘Down At The Local’ and ‘Tell Him’. Also a couple personal reflections in ‘Helen’ (a song to his goddaughter and niece) and ‘Song For Roy’ (a prayer to an unsaved friend). Jazzy saxophone on the closing ‘Loving You’. Recorded at Maranatha! Studios in Santa Ana, California. I see Dennis Holt, Graham Kendrick and John Pantry in the credits. Nice cover art.     (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
