The Beginning (Horn Of Plenty LP-104) 1976?

Splendid co-ed acoustic folkrock custom from 2-girl 3-guy Texas outfit.  Sharp acoustic guitar work reflecting the jangly rural feel of America or Crosby Stills & Nash.  Add the fragile airy male/female harmonies and Jesus lyrics and you’re on par with groups such as Moment Of Truth, The Bridge and Rising Hope.  Good relaxed homemade atmosphere, arranged with rhythm guitar, lead guitar (including some light electric touches), bass, drums and one appearance of piano.  Ten original songs with titles like ‘Jesus Sweet Jesus’, ‘Lend A Helping Hand’, ‘Threw Away The Key’, ‘Jesus I’m Yours’ and ‘I Hear A Thousand People’.  Not a bad song on here, the brisk-moving numbers ‘Turn It Over’ and ‘You Lose’ being especially strong.  Attractive primitive b&w cover design as well.     (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
