A Gift With Love (Great Western DMHP 005) 1974? UK *
In the same manner as The Joy Strings’ Well Seasoned and Reflection’s Nativity, the UK male/female outfit Pebble has created an enjoyable folk folk/rock custom that focuses on the period of Christ’s birth. There’s sometimes a scourge associated with being a “a Christmas album”, but if you can set that aside you’ll find a pleasant collection of distinctly British-sounding songs aglow with the vibrant spirit of Parchment. A few standards here (‘In The Bleak Mid Winter’, ‘Mary’s Boychild’, ‘O Little Town Of Bethlehem’), but most of the songs are actually originals, including ‘Wonderful Day’, ‘Cos’ I’m Free’, ‘If Only For A Day’ and ‘A Boy Was Born’. ‘Love One Another’ goes beyond the topic at hand to include verses on Moses and John the Baptist. Also a beautiful Presence-like ballad called ‘Jesus Lives’. Mostly an acoustic focus, although electric guitar and dynamic synthesizers add zip to a few numbers. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
There is also a bonus track on the album not listed on the back cover. Hi Hi Hi. diakoneo
One in remembrance of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, to Him all glory and honour, and in memory of the blog Heavenly Grooves.
