Be Led By The Spirit (FEL 682)  1978

Catholic guitarist/singer who was still doing folk in 1978 when most were moving toward more choral/MOR sounds.  Basic stuff here with the feel of ordinary folks (especially the backup singers), accompanied by acoustic guitar, piano, flute, organ, synthesizer and bassoon.  Robert’s songs are usually simple, melodic, quiet and joyous,  with similarities to same-label recordings by Bob Hurd, Jim Shaw and Ron Griffen.  ‘Waters Of Rebirth’, ‘Feelings Just Are’, ‘Be Bread Broken’, ‘The Modern World’, seven more.  ‘Father, I Place My Life In Your Hands’ is the standout – a solemn minor-key acoustic piece with eerie organ in the background.      (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).
