Hacia Ti (CBP  48344)  1974  Chili *

Attractive Chilean soft rock recording warmed through with some glowing psych touches. On Hacia Ti the six men of Grupo Shalom present eleven of their self-written songs, all sung in Spanish, backed by a relaxed underground blend of electric guitar, organ, bass and drums. Particularly recommended is the heavier ‘Vas Por Camino Equivocado’ (‘You Are On The Wrong Road’) with its edgy late-‘60s organ and Iron Butterfly-ish fuzz. More good psychy electric guitar can be found on the similarly intense ‘Quiero Algo Neuvo’ (‘I Want Something New’). Gentler moods are the norm, like the beautiful dreamy mysterious ballad ‘Solo Hay Amor’ (‘There Is Only Love’). Other songs: ‘Es Mi Padre’ (‘He Is My Father’), the title (‘Toward You’), ‘Con El’ (‘With Him’) and ‘Su Voluntad Se Hara’ (‘His Will Be Done’). Nice use of recorder on four of the tracks.      (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).
