Song of Solomon (Music Mountain MMP-PG-1001) 1975
Exceptional unknown custom recorded of dreamy progressive soft rock. The 12-minute (yeow!) title track takes its theme from the Biblical book of the same name, opening with the sound of seagulls and crashing waves before surrounding Giardina’s guitar and vocals with a lush array of keyboards, including lots of floating mellotron, plus organ, synthesizer and piano. Similar etheal moods with the same guitar/keyboard mix are explored on gentle moving ballads like ‘Darkness Before The Dawn’, ‘Christ Of Galilee’, ‘Billows And Waves’ and ‘One More Mile To Go’, some of which would feel right at home on an Arkangel album. In the more upbeat category are ‘Never Alone’ (with rocking electric guitar) and the knee-slapping pedal-steel-twangin’ ‘Dance Song’ (which borrows some of the lyrics from ‘Lord Of The Dance’). A product of Christ Gospel Church, Jeffersonville, Indiana. Beautiful cover illustration of a man and woman’s profiles against a background of ocean, sun and clouds. A very special work that’s one of the tops for the style. (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).
