The Designer (Hallelujah SP 74013) 1974?
Okay west-coast m/f folk ensemble abetted by a few original songs and occasional lead acoustic guitar. There’s some kind of tie with the group Spiritborne – the back cover implies side one is The Joyful Noise while side two is Spiritborne, but only one group is pictured and the record label says The Joyful Noise on both sides. Regardless, the style of the two sides is more or less indistinguishable. The sound is more folksy and acoustic than what I’ve heard of Spiritborne’s highly glossed recordings. Includes adequate renderings of Love Song (‘Country Church’ and ‘Welcome Back’), as well as ‘Amen’, ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ and Paul Simon’s ‘He’s My Brother’. Best track is the beautiful flute-accompanied original ‘Kyrie’ which reminds me a little of God Unlimited. (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).
Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo.
