Morning Breaks So Softly (Master Productions 771155)  1977

Jerry Holthusen – Morning Breaks So Softly front

Moody soft rock and folk custom, remarkable in that it’s absolutely drenched in psychy warbled phased tremolo guitar.  On all ten tracks!  Perhaps Jerry heard those effects on songs like Bread’s ‘Diary’ and ‘If”, thought it was the coolest thing on earth , and decided to make a whole album out of the deal.  Ballads move along gently with bell-like electric piano chiming in while jangly 12-string, bass, drums and backing vocals from Beth and Gwen Holthusen fill out the sound.  All comes together on the powerful closing track ‘Yesterday Is Gone’.   Recorded in Nebraska and housed in one of those generic sunset-on-the-water covers.  Never has mellow been so … so wild!    (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).

Thanks John for this music.  Thank you Ken for the front cover photo.
