Hug (Fanfare FM 75121) 1975

Respectable homemade smörgåsbord of simply-arranged folk, soft rock and singer/songwriter sounds, sometimes acoustic, sometimes electric. A few light jazz edges, as on ‘Prologue In Heaven’ (which borrows its lyrics from Goethe’s ‘Faust’) and the acoustic flute-backed ‘I’ve Been Blind’. Also ventures into rockin’ harmonica blues (‘You’re Too Cool Blues’) and electric folkrock (‘Psalm 118’). A female vocalist steps in for the stirring piano ballad ‘From The Heart’. Some of the songs remind me a little of Michael Kelly Blanchard. Housed in cover of large teddy bear with arms outstretched and “HUG” spelled out in large letters across its chest. (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).
