Free (Epoch Universal EP1077) 1970
Early Epoch Universal obscurity boasting a firm brassy Chicago kind of sound that blends rock, jazz, soul and folk. Rob Roy sings, plays guitar and composed a lot of the songs. John Mooter adds keyboards as well as several robust trombone leads. A band called Blue Tater PME fills in the rest of the horns, sax, organ, flute, bass and drums. Unlike a lot of horn rock customs these guys seem to carry some professionalism, packing a good deal of oomph into their playing. Includes Stookey’s ‘Hymn’ and a couple Leonard Cohen songs (‘Suzanne’ and ‘Story Of Isaac’). Back cover states “Roll On Jesus People”. (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).
Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo.
