Rebirth (LeFevre Sound MLSP-3100) 1970
Similarly styled follow-up with some good laid-back self-penned charmers like ‘Jesus Life’, ‘Heaven Knows’, ‘Lancaster County’ and ‘The Way I Feel’. Nice electric guitar and organ combination, joined by piano here and there. Trumpet crops up on three songs. Quite a few covers this time, including hip translations of ‘They’ll Know We Are Christians’ and Nilsson’s ‘Everybody’s Talkin’, both with groovy harmonies and nifty guitar solos. More decent guitar leads coupled with softly murmured vocals for a seven-minute slow bluesy meander through Gershwin’s ‘Summertime’. Also versions of ‘People Gotta Be Free/I Wanna Be Free’, ‘Proud Mary’ and ‘I Know Where I’m Going’. From Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Atlanta, Georgia label.
Rebirth (Avant Garde AVS 135) 1971
For their Avant Garde release Rebirth selected and in some cases re-recorded songs from their two rare customs. Eight songs are lifted from the second lp (along with the cover photo), four from Into The Light. The end result is one of the nicer jangly electric folk-rock albums to see light. Have seen it advertised as “folk/psych”. (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).
Sorry for the long delay more computer problems. Thank you Donald for the Lefevre Sound rear cover.
