From An Indirect Love (Epoch VII EG100) 1974
Ed Gutfreund’s first lp is above-par mellow flute-laden folk and acoustic ballads, featuring Ed on acoustic and classical guitar, with Erich Sylvester contributing additional guitar (12-string and classical). Piano, mandolin, dulcimer, banjo and harmonica also appear on some tracks. A couple of acoustic rock songs with a rural edge and electric guitar (‘Alleluia, Praise To The Lord’ with nice dual leads, and ‘Your People Of Faith’). Sometimes a hint of early Talbot brothers. Pleasant cover of the Quaker hymn ‘How Can I Keep From Singing?’ along with a simple folk/gospel cover of ‘Lights Of The City’. Brilliant colorful cover painting. (The Archivist by Ken Scott, 4th Edition).
Thank you George for the cover photos. Thank you Discogs for the label photos and the track list.
