The Tree Of Life (Artronics ART-1171) 1971? Norway

Lutheran Youth Encounter sponsored this Norwegian folk group to come to the US and share their faith in song to American youth. The foursome does a fine job, too, presenting a fresh mix of originals (‘Prayer’, ‘Laer Meg’, ‘Someone Who Needs It’) and cover songs (‘Nowhere Man’, ‘Punky’s Dilemma’, ‘Leaving On A Jet Plane’). Opens with the autobiographical ‘Vi Fire’, which when translated into English means We Four. One girl (Mette Lund) and three guys (Oystein Andresen – guitar, Harald Eide – electric bass, Morten Fr. Lund – guitar). Four of the twelve selections are sung in Norwegian, including ‘Kristus Konge’ to the tune of ‘Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee’. The affecting harmonies, acoustic guitar work and simple yet vibrant arrangements make for an enjoyable listening experience. Minnesota custom label. (Ken Scott – The Archivist).
