First Fruits (no label LVR6) 1978

Once again I pull out my Pat Terry Group reference to help describe the pleasant rural folk-rock sound of these seven fellas from Lynchburg, Virginia. Some good fluid acoustic guitar leads, joined by 12-string, electric guitar, piano, Fender Rhodes, bass, drums, and sporadic Arp synth. A few country rock moves: steel guitar on ‘Peanut Butter Sandwich’ and ‘Devil’s Lies’, banjo on the Poco-ish ‘Blind Man’. Ten original songs in all on this custom recording, all written by guitarist and vocalist Billy McDonald. Nice wholesome piece. If you like Pat Terry you’ll certainly like this, too. (Ken Scott – The Archivist).
