Songs Of A Servant (S/L 7601) 1976

Minneapolis folk troupe from ecumenical community of the same name. Decent folk music, mostly original songs, pure and simple, jangly upbeat expressions as well as gentle stirring melodies. Most of the songs have several singers on the melody, but not enough to sound like a choir. Also a couple songs with solo female vocals. Primarily acoustic guitar for backing, with some nice touches from flute and vibraharp. A few similarities to the Fisherfolk, but with greater depth. Capable of some very pretty moments, especially ‘Create In Me’ and their cover of Eduardo Stein’s ‘Yahweh Called Me’. (Ken Scott – The Archivist).
