Sweet Revival (SSS International SSS-16) 1971

Blue-eyed soul effort rightly featuring the expressive vocal cords of one Don Hill and the man can sing. No song-writing credits, but if he had any input I’d say he’s an ok song-writer, too. ‘Reach Out And Give A Little Love’ and ‘Will The Real Jesus’ are good attempts at copying the hit styles of the times – positive, gospelly counterparts to Jackie DeShannon, Joe South, and Coven. A cover track from Jesus Christ Superstar and one that sounds like Tony Orlando & Dawn. Some real hot fuzz leads on the first two songs, too. A real crossover attempt with a cover shot of the band in front of a church in a circular photo with their name dripping into the photo from the top and instrument-playing angels (?) rounding the bottom of the circle. Pretty decent stuff. (Bob Felberg) . (Ken Scott – The Archivist).
