To Our Friends (Pinebrook PB1067) 1974

With Shalom’s Pinebrook follow-up came a fair amount of the label’s usual MOR string and brass lighteners (about half the songs here get the treatment), but there’s still enough soft country folk-rockin’ punch to secure a spot in these pages. ‘How Long Oh Lord’, for example, has a nice hands-off rural rock groove with good lead electric guitar, while ‘A Place To Dwell’ is gently carried along by jangly finger-picked guitar, soft moody harmonies and a lovely steel guitar melody. Includes a couple bluegrass numbers (‘When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder’ and ‘I Saw The Light’) and a cover of ‘For Those Tears I Died’. Once again I’m reminded of the group Suncast. (Ken Scott – The Archivist).
