Paid On The Nail (Key KL 024) 1974 UK *
Paid On The Nail pairs Kendrick’s vocals and acoustic guitar with the moog synthesizer of Peter Roe, plus bass, piano and drums. Similar pop-minded acoustic folk-rock spirit to Bright Side Up, approaching a slightly more intense rock style for ‘Caiphas And The Temple Guard’ and ‘When The World Said No’. Plenty of Kendrick’s trademark melancholy ballads, including ‘How Much Do You Think You Are Worth?’, ‘Comforting Stranger’, ‘You’re The Perfume I’m The Jar’, ‘Love Is In The Things You Make’ and ‘Make It Soon’. Brisk lively moods are expressed on ‘Beautiful Night’ and ‘Silence Reigns/Hosanna’. Written while Kendrick was involved in a UK evangelistic team ministry called In The Name Of Jesus.
