Do You Know My Name (Rejoice CSLP 1002) 1968

With his robe, tassels, sandals and strapped-on guitar this Capuchin Franciscan Brother looks right in tune with God and nature. An unusual but high quality collection of soft-spoken old-style folk originals with only bass and occasional drums backing his acoustic guitar. Spiritual material is balanced with sly offbeat humorous talk-sung observations on ‘The Tube’, ‘Conformity Of Non-Conformity’, ‘Telephone Number’ and ‘Do You Mind If I Smoke’. Drums add a mild country-rockabilly beat in a couple spots, while tom-tom and finger cymbal give a strange tribal quality to ‘There Was A Man’. A rather intriguing individual. (Ken Scott – Archivist).
